The original Me Gusta face was created by May Oswald and first posted to 4chan and Reddit on March 18th, 2010, as part of a deliberate effort to introduce a new Rage Comic character. It quickly became a viral expression of awkward, creepy, or oddly satisfying pleasure, and helped define the surreal humor of early 2010s internet culture. This acquisition was facilitated by Giancarlo Chaux, one of the Provenance Agents of the DAO. BIC won the auction at just over $70,000.
